---THE CLASS A CHALLENGE RETIRES AFTER SEVEN-YEAR RUN:
With the start of the 2005 season, the Class A Challenge ends its run as the Chicago-area's small school boys volleyball premier tourney. In it's place starting with the spring of 2005, a new name for this end-of-the-season event becomes the LAKESHORE CLASSIC, sponsored by the Latin School. ---TOURNEY NOTES FROM THE 2004 CLASS A CHALLENGE (MAY, 2004): Holy Trinity high’s Victor Vargas gained double honors at this year’s annual “Class A Challenge” boys volleyball tourney, gaining first Chicago Prep All-Conference honors for his play during the regular season of play and All-Tourney accolades for his efforts both Friday and Saturday in the just completed “small-school” tourney.
---Vargas joins a long list of Tigers who have been so honored for their efforts during this prestigious six-year tournament.
---The complete list of the 2004 Chicago Prep All-Conference Boys’ Volleyball team is found below along with the final All-Tournament selections.

---WHEATON, ST. FRANCIS: Frank Torres – senior – setter; John Tibble – senior – defensive specialist; ILLIANA CHRISTIAN: Scott Piersma – senior – setter; LAKE FOREST ACADEMY: Zach Myers; (ELGIN), ST. ---IN THE FINALS of the 2004 Class A Challenge, Wheaton, St. Francis, seeded #1 for the tourney, prevailed for the third straight year, defeating annual rival Lansing, Illiana Christian in two games to take this year’s title by scores of 25-22, 25-17. It marked a record fourth overall championship for the Spartans in the six year history of the event.
---In tourney history it should be noted that Holy Trinity advanced to the title match in both the first and second year’s the event was run (1999 and 2000) falling in ’99 to initial title-holder, Illiana Christian and in 2000 to the first championship captured by Wheaton, St. Francis.
